GEMME Belgium Reports: The Ghent Labour Court organised a Moot Court CRA

How to prepare for the implementation of the new amicable settlement tools: discover the initiative of the Ghent Labour Court: a "Moot court CRA".

On Friday 14 June 2024, the Ghent Labour Court organised a Moot Court CRA: a simulated hearing of an amicable settlement chamber. 42 judges and court clerks took part in role-playing, listened to the practical experiences of specialists and exchanged tips.

"In September, the Ghent Labour Court will be setting up an out-of-court settlement chamber," explains judge Evelien de Kezel, "To prepare for this, we organised this mock hearing, among other things. We were assisted by experienced mediators and conciliating judges, including Helena De Backer, Kathleen De Cuyper, Renaat Hoop, Moreno Olivier and Avi Schneebalg."

"As well as exchanging thoughts and practical experiences, we organised role-playing during this mock hearing. We based them on real cases. The aim was to give the participants - 42 judges and clerks from our employment tribunal - a taste of their new role. After the launch of our out-of-court settlement chamber, they will have to take on new tasks. I hope that this mock hearing has already given them some good ideas".
