GEMME Ireland hosted an in person and online event at the Gaffney Room Distillery Buildings Dublin on Wednesday November 29th 2023. The event was open to all.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

GEMME Ireland was fortunate to have secured three excellent speakers for an insightful and thought-provoking analysis of the mediation dynamics behind the Good Friday Agreement and how the lessons learned from that mediation can be applied to other international conflicts.<\/p>\n

Ann Power<\/strong> is a Judge of the Court of Appeal. She also serves as a Judge of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal. Prior to this Ann served for over seven years as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg, and participated in several cases of inter-state conflict and the human rights claims arising therefrom. Thereafter, she served for three years as the Presiding Judge of the Constitutional Court Chamber of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, a specialised internationalised war crimes tribunal in The Hague. Ms Justice Power will moderate the event.<\/p>\n

Tommie Gorman<\/strong> needs little introduction as he is one of Ireland\u2019s most respected observers of North-South politics and British-Irish relations. From 2001-2021 he served as the Belfast-based Northern Editor of RT\u00c9, the Irish public broadcasting service. Before that he spent 12 years as RT\u00c9\u2019s Europe Editor. He retired from RT\u00c9 after a 41-year career in April 2021. He is now a senior columnist with the online publisher, The Currency. His memoir \u201cNever Better\u201d, published by Allen & Unwin, was launched by the then Taoiseach, Mich\u00e9al Martin, in October 2022.<\/p>\n

Turlough O\u2019Donnell SC<\/strong>, is a mediator and barrister. He was elected to the General Council of the Bar of Ireland in 2004 and from 2004 to 2006 chaired the Arbitration and ADR Committee of the Bar Council. He was born and raised in Belfast. He is in practice as a mediator since July, 2006 and since then he has acted as mediator in a large number and wide variety of cases. In Turlough\u2019s view, grace and compassion is what mediation is all about.<\/p>\n
