GEMME IRELAND

Also known as The Irish Branch of GEMME, GEMME IRELAND is a national non-profit organisation comprised of judges and part of a European network of judges from Member States either of the European Union or of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) including Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland. GEMME IRELAND is affiliated to GEMME EUROPE.

GEMME members are committed to promoting mediation and all forms of dispute resolution, including restorative justice.

GEMME members include serving and retired judges. Accredited mediators and lawyers may apply to become associate members.

GEMME goals are:

To promote the association of judges working to support mediation, with the purpose of strengthening and improving the practice of mediation.

To promote the exchange of information concerning practices and experience in the area of mediation, conciliation or any other alternative method of dispute resolution.

To contribute to the development of mediation and alternative methods of dispute resolution, by participating in conferences and activities, familiarizing professionals and citizens with mediation and participating in defining training of collaborating mediators.

To use any means to assist judges with their individual steps to support mediation and encourage training for the purpose of relevant and effective practice of it, as for any other alternative method of dispute resolution that is legally permitted.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME A MEMBER OF GEMME IRELAND?

Magistrates, whether professional or lay, serving or honorary, are eligible. The courts in which these judges work are also eligible. Associate members may be appointed with the agreement of the Board of Directors, including lawyers, academics and any qualified persons who have an interest in and work for mediation.
