Looking back at IFOMENE's 32nd master class

During this roundtable discussion, which was moderated by Linda Benrais, members of GEMME from Belgium, France, Poland and the United Kingdom discussed the main issues and challenges related to amicable policy in Europe.

GEMME Europe is very grateful to IFOMENE for setting this up.

This lively webinar is well worth listening to, or re-listening to! REPLAY

  • Institutionalisation or implementation of a public policy on amicable settlements: The speakers discussed the pros and cons of this approach, focusing particularly on public communication, education, establishing dedicated institutions, involving the judiciary, and producing statistics.
  • Levers for developing the use of mediation among citizens: Several options were discussed, including whether prior mediation should be mandatory, the role of the judge (as an incentive or conciliator), financial or tax incentives, and whether to take an incentive-based or coercive approach.

  • Ensuring the quality of mediation to build trust: The discussions focused on the training and ethics of mediators, as well as the mechanisms used to monitor and evaluate their practice.
